Shoes

The picture above is by Martin Zalba, a Spanish photographer. The boots are well worn and, the cleaning materials would suggest, well loved. The photographer has captured a broad range of textures in the worn leather, the laces and the bristles of the brush.

My own photos (below) are an experiment in texture, lighting and storytelling.
The first, Puss in Boots, is a picture of my cat and a pair of black leather riding boots. The original image was processed in Photoshop to form a black and white image, so as to better bring out the tones and textures of the hair and leather.

The second of my images, Upside down emotions, takes a pair of carefully positioned evening shoes against a sumptuous velvet backcloth. The image is brought alive by the sequins capturing the sunlight to reflect a myriad of colours.

For my final subject, I took one photo (top) of a pair of country brogues and shotgun, cartridges and belt under artificial light and the second (bottom) in natural light. The top image retains the warmth and character of the shoes, whilst the bottom image is somewhat deadened by the background.
